A twenty -
one day international
training course on "Gene based
techniques for research in
biotechnology" sponsored under India Millenium Fund, Govt. of India and
TCS Colombo-Plan Secretariat, Sri
Lanka was concluded here at Indian
Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar.
The training course was organized by
the Biochemistry Section of IVRI,
wherein 10 participants from
different Asian countries viz. Iran,
Malaysia, Thailand, Fiji, Indonesia
and Vietnam participated.
The Director and Vice-Chancellor of
IVRI, Prof. M.C. Sharma graced the
valedictory function as Chief Guest
and distributed certificates to the
participants, who have completed the
training course successfully. He
felt his happiness over the 21-day
course and emphasized that gene
based techniques for research in
biotechnology involve basic
techniques of molecular biology and
biotechnology that demands well
trained competent scientific
manpower being the primary need of a
country engaged in research. Prof.
Sharma further stressed the need for
such international training courses
to share the newer techniques with
other countries.
Briefing about the training course,
Dr. Bhaskar Sharma, Course Director
and ICAR National Professor
highlighted the training course and
informed that the course curriculum
covered on various aspects of
genebased techniques. He hoped that
participants will carry the
knowledge acquired here for
application to their respective
countries.Earlier, Dr. P. Joshi, In-charge,
Biochemistry Section, IVRI welcomed
the dignitaries and others present
on the occasion. The valedictory
function was ended with vote of
thanks proposed by Dr. Meena Kataria,
